2023 Home Arts Show ENTRY FORM

Entry Forms will be available at the Home Arts & Crafts tent to fill out by hand on Monday, July 17, 2023 between 3:00pm and 6:00pm.

Rules for Specific Divisions and Classes
Spinning i
  • All classes must be marked by weight: F - Fine, M - Medium, B - Bulky
Quilting i
  • Only 2 entries per person.
  • Can be any size.
  • Any labels must be covered with fabric (can be sewed or pinned on).

Quilter's Challenge i
  • Purchase Fat Quarter fabric that has been chosen by Home Arts.

  • Choice of pattern, design and coordinating fabric is up to the entrant.
  • The entry must be a Quilted and Finished project with the following size limitations:
    • no smaller than 144 square inches (for example - 12 inches by 12 inches)
    • no larger than 1,296 square inches (for example - 36 inches by 36 inches)

  • Possible projects: wall hanging, tote bag, pillow, table runner, placemats
  • Additional and coordinating fabric may be purchased at The Village Quilter.
  • Name of quilter must be covered by basted fabric.
  • Projects will be judged in a separate class in the quilting division.
  • Judges assess visual impact, design and color, precision of work, quilting quality, and finishing.
  • Information for the Quilter's Challenge is also available at The Village Quilter in Mt. Holly.
  • Entries will be judged against each other.
Needlework i
  • Needlework articles must be protected by glass or plastic.
Sewing i
  • Pattern not required with entry.
Fine Arts i
  • Wire required to hang entries.
  • Fragile items should be wrapped or protected.

Juvenile Challenge

Theme: Holiday Ornament

  • For children (ages 1 to 12) and teens (ages 13 to 17)
  • Ornaments need to be able to be hung on a tree.
  • Use your imagination when creating the ornament.
  • Entrants will be judged against each other according to their age category.
Photography i
  • Limit of three (3) photographs per entrant
  • All entries must be framed and include wire for hanging.
CULINARY ARTS i
  • A recipe is REQUIRED with ALL Culinary Arts entries, and must include name and phone number.
  • "From scratch" recipes only! NO box mixes, instant pudding, canned frosting, Kool Whip, canned or jarred pie fillings, etc.
  • Disposable containers are strongly recommended for culinary entries, as we are unable to return containers.
  • More than one entry per contestant is permitted.

Culinary Challenge: Baked Goods i

Theme: Holiday Goodies

  • Bakery products only, such as cake, cookie, bread, etc.
  • "From scratch" recipes only!. No cake mixes, instant pudding, whipped topping, purchased canned fruits, canned frosting, etc.
  • More than one entry per contestant is permitted.
  • Disposable containers are strongly recommended for culinary entries, as we are unable to return containers.
  • A recipe is REQUIRED with ALL Culinary Arts entries, and must include name and phone number.
  • Entry will be judged on taste and appearance.
  • Entrants will be judged against each other.
Canned/Processed i
  • All entries must be in standard canned jars.
  • All entries must be labeled.
  • Canned jar lids and rings must be new and free from rust.
  • No fabric covers on jar lids.
  • All entries must have been made after July 2022 and processed in a boiling water or pressure canner according to current USDA recommendations.

Canned/Processed Challenge: Preserves i
  • "From scratch" recipes only!
  • All entries must be made after July 2023 and have been processed according to current USDA recommendations.
  • All entries must be labeled.
  • More than one entry per contestant is permitted.
  • A recipe is REQUIRED, and must include name and phone number.
  • Entries will be judged on taste and appearance.
  • Entrants will be judged against each other.
Houseplants i
  • No damaged or spent flowers
  • No dust, dirt, pollen, or spray on leaves
  • Free of pests and disease
  • No leaf polish
  • Containers should be clean and damage-free
Cut Flowers i
  • Flowers must be grown by entrant.
  • Clear container
  • No leaves under water
  • You are permitted to refresh your flowers only during Home Arts Tent hours.
Vegetables i
  • Three (3) specimens entered for each category except squash (only 1 specimen necessary for squash)
  • All vegetables must be home-grown by entrant.
  • Specimens should be clean.
  • All varieties must be correctly named on entry tags.
  • Specimens should be brought in a disposable container.
Fruit i
  • Berries: Twelve (12) specimens per entry. All other fruit: Three (3) specimens per entry.
  • All fruit must be home-grown by entrant.
  • Specimens should be clean.
  • All varieties must be correctly named on entry tags.
  • Specimens should be brought in a disposable container.
Eggs i

Following is the criteria used for judging the entry:

  • Entry must be 1 dozen eggs grown by entrant.
  • Shell Texture - non-porous, uniformly smooth throughout
  • Shell Quality - not thin, resistant to breakage, free of hair-line cracks, without bumps or spots
  • Shell Shape - uniform, oval, smaller ends quite evident
  • Size - top priority is six eggs of uniform size, then, appropriate size for breed of entry
  • Cleanliness - exteriors free of stains or evidence of sand-papering
  • Grade - yolks "stand up" and whites are not runny
  • Interior Qualities - free of foreign spots or other impurities, yolk size proportionate to size of eggs.
Horticulture Challenge: FRONT DOOR

Theme: Winter Holiday

RULES

  • Use your creativity and imagination!
  • Remember that the ground around the door is part of your canvas.
  • Digging into the ground is not permitted.
  • Doors and decor will be subject to ALL weather conditions.
  • All doors are painted white. The color cannot be altered, and no painting or damaging of hardware is permitted.
  • Electricity will NOT be provided for lighting. You may used battery powered lights
