Young Equestrians Show off Talents

Each day of Farm Fair features a different horse show showcasing the talents of our county’s equestrians. The horse shows are open to all riders not just 4-H members and are sponsored by the Burlington County 4-H Program.

Wednesday, July 21st, is Prep Fun Day. Riders must be in third grade or younger.  All participants will receive ribbons.  There is no judging. This fun show features game classes like Keg Race and Egg-and-Spoon. Lead Line classes are offered. Attire is long pants, riding boots, a shirt with sleeves, and an ASTM/SEI approved safety helmet.

Thursday, July 22nd, is English Day.  Hunter style classes are offered for riders from beginner to experienced.  Riders wear English riding attire including an ASTM/SEI safety helmet. Riders exhibit in flat as well as jumping (over fences) classes.

Friday, July 23rd, is Western Day.  Classes are for beginner to experienced riders and include In Hand classes, Horsemanship, Trail and games.  Riders wear western gear and an ASTM/SEI approved safety helmet.

Saturday, July 24th, is Fun Day. Junior riders are fourth to eighth grade; senior riders are ninth grade to adult. (Grade as of September 2008)  Classes are based on speed and skill.  Examples of classes include the mailbox race, the barrel race, and ride-a-buck (a bareback class). Attire is long pants, riding boots, a shirt with sleeves, and an ASTM/SEI approved safety helmet. This is a fun and funny show to watch.

The horse show ring is located in the Northeast corner of the Farm Fair grounds.  The

Prep Fun Day show starts at 9:00 AM, the English and Western shows start at 8:30 AM. The Junior Fun Day starts at 8:30 AM.  The seniors start in the afternoon, not before 2:00 PM. A class list is available before the fair by calling the 4-H office at (609) 265-5052.

While you watch the shows, be sure to take a break and walk around the horse tent where some of our 4-H Horse Project members exhibit their animals.
