QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications:
1. The girl entering the Burlington County Farm Fair Queen Contest must be a resident of Burlington County.
2. The girl must be a Junior or Senior in a high school or is presently being home schooled at the junior/senior level.
3. The girl should be a member of/or have an interest in one of the following:
a. Home Economics Class
b. 4-H Club
c. Grange
d. Live on a farm
e. Work on a farm/farm market
f. FFA
g. Girl Scouts
h. Interest in Preservation of Agriculture in Burl. Co.
i. Interest in Ecology/Preservation of the land
j. Active in horticulture/garden club
Requirements:
1. An essay (see Essay Question attachment)
2. Appearances at the 2010 Burlington County Farm Fair during the Fair: July 21-24, 2010.
3. Appearances at Farm Fair activities during the 2010-2011 year.
4. Crowning of the next year's queen (July 2011)
5. A written resume. (see Application attachment)
6. Two (2) photographs for use in publicity before the Fair. The photo must be a school yearbook type photo. This type of photo reproduces best in newsprint.
Judges will consider:
1. Poise
2. Appearance
3. Personality
4. An essay written by contestants (see Essay attachment)
(Your response to the Master of Ceremonies' questions will be reflected in the first three categories.)
Each of the four categories is worth 10 points; a perfect score is 40 points.
Prizes:
1. Queen - $300.00 cash prize and a silver bowl.
2. First Runner-up - $100.00 cash prize and a silver bowl.
3. Second Runner-up - $100.00 cash prize and a silver bowl.
4. All contestants will receive a gift commemorating her participation in the Farm Fair Queen Pageant.

Thank you to all who submitted your application for the 2006 contest.
Suggestions for Contestants:
1. Posture is extremely important! Your carriage and poise is noticed by everyone.
2. SMILE and look relaxed even if you have "butterflies".
3. Hair should be worn in a style to suit your face and personality.
4. Make-up may be worn a little heavier than normal due to the lights.
5. Your poise, voice, personality and intelligence will show when answering questions for the Master of Ceremonies. Think over what your answer might consist of - state your answers with a smile; be as clear as possible.
6. Remember, physical appearance is not everything! Your talents and hobbies are important too. If you are given an opportunity to state them - make sure you do so! For example, if you have made your dress, then say so. During the question segment, you have the perfect opportunity to shine for the judges. This is the time to politely and charmingly "toot your own horn".
7. Practice walking and turning in front of a mirror. Try to see yourself as others see you. Never look at your feet.
8. Appropriate summer dress attire.
9. Wear medium or high heels.
10. Jewelry should fit the dress and the occasion.
11. Make-up should be artfully applied.
12. Flowers are supplied by the committee.
13. You must provide your own escort (fathers, brothers, friends, etc.).
14. A final reminder:
a. Know you look your best.
b. Have confidence in yourself.
c. Walk erect with grace and poise.
d. Answer questions clearly and let your personality show through.
